Schoolhouse Gardens

SCHOOLHOUSE EARTH PROJECTS

Point 1: Eating local food is one of the simplest ways an individual can impact the environment. Shipping foods is a huge pollutant and so easy to get around.

Point 2: Fresh Fruits and vegetables dramatically increase health and immunities.

Point 3: Gardening is fun and easy to learn.

Point 4: Kids love to get their hands dirty.

Point 5: Learning by doing is more memorable than book learning.

Point 6: It is fun and easy to put in a schoolyard garden.

Point 7: Nurturing the environment and learning to work in partnership with nature is critical to our future.

Point 8: Kids love watching things grow.

Point 9: Schoolyard Gardens can supplement school lunch programs or be taken home for family consumption.

Point 10: Fresh food taste better. Learning to love vegetables is easy when it tastes great.

Consider that the deep learning that comes with vegetable gardening lasts a lifetime. It can bring peace and patience to all who participate.

Installing a schoolyard garden teaches kids to learn how to cultivate nature, responsibility, teamwork, and patience. Learning at an early age to love fresh vegetables will support good health and good food choices during teenage years, through young adult, and into adult hood. Working hand in hand with adults and other kids teaches teamwork and responsibility.
